REVIEW | Sinister Pointe’s MIST

Ashley wasn’t able to make it to this media night event so I decided to try something a little different for our review. I interviewed my boyfriend, Joseph, who I brought along as my guest, to see his thoughts on Sinister Pointe’s 2019 haunt offering, MIST. Located in Westminster, MIST is a free-roaming scavenger hunt style game where you must try to retrieve 13 artifacts from a dark and foggy town.

First, tell our readers a bit about yourself!

Hi, I’m Joseph! I love horror and slasher movies. I’m currently in the midst of a Nightmare on Elm Street marathon. I work the graveyard shift (not as spooky as it sounds) as a machinist but, schedule permitting, I try to go to as many Halloween & horror events as I can during the year. My ‘must go to event’ is Midsummer Scream.

Was this your first time visiting Sinister Pointe?

No, this was my third time. I went to Scary Place last year and Spirit Lounge just a couple months ago. I loved the atmosphere and attention to detail with all the horror decor they had at the bar. Wish it was year round!

What were you expecting heading into MIST?

I had zero expectations because I knew it was going to be something different than I had experienced before. I really enjoy scavenger hunts though, I loved doing them as a kid and the fact that this one was horror-themed was right up my alley.

What was your favorite part of the MIST experience?

My favorite part was probably the scare actors playing ‘the See’ers.’ They were really persistent and added a sense of urgency to the game. Another girl in our group kept getting scared so I think that put a target on our backs! The experience as a whole also had a spooky Indiana Jones vibe, so that was a lot of fun.

On a scale of 1-10, how scary was MIST to you?

7.5 – The way they set you up with the explanation and story leading into the game starts it off pretty unsettling. Then once inside, the set designs and the thick fog make it disorienting, and the scare actors keep your adrenaline going.

What was the hardest part?

Just finding the artifacts was pretty difficult. They give you a few clues but even our 4 person team had a hard time locating them. Only a couple were somewhat obvious, and we definitely got stuck a couple times when we were SURE there would have been an artifact in a certain location.

Are there any tips you’d like to share with our readers that plan on attending this season?

Think outside of the box! I’d suggest a team of at least 4 people, because 13 artifacts in 20 minutes means you have to work quickly. Wear clothing you can move around, duck and crawl in. Take advantage of the candles they have all around the town, sometimes it’s hard to see the map.

And finally, how many of the 13 total artifacts did you end up finding?

We only found a total of 8. We probably could have found more if we hadn’t gotten so hung up in some of the buildings, so keep moving! The time flies by fast. They offer re-entry at half-price and you get entered into a drawing if you find all 13, so that’s a big incentive to try again.
