Happy Halloween Month! It’s time for The Haunt List’s 31 Days Of Halloween! With so many spooky attractions and events happening in SoCal, we’ve put together a list of some of our top ‘must-see’ haunts, theatre experiences, spooky events, movie releases, and more, giving you something Halloween-y to do every day of the month! #THL31Days

Most of these haunts and activities are open select days throughout the month (some are year-round!), so make sure to visit their sites for additional dates and information. While we’ve included brief descriptions and age suggestions, we also recommend visiting each attraction’s website for age, health, and mobility restrictions.

*Friday, October 1 – The Addams Family 2 

In theaters – Hoping to get closer as a family, Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the Addams clan embark on an adventurous road trip in a hideous and humongous camper.

*Saturday, October 2 – Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood 

Universal City, CA – Halloween Horror Nights is back with a vengeance at Universal Studios Hollywood. You’ll want to bring plenty of friends with you to share the screams and watch your back as you all make your way through terrifying mazes. Face nightmarish creatures in sinister scare zones. Lose yourselves in outrageous live entertainment. And escape to some of the park’s most exhilarating attractions. You definitely need someone to hide behind, somebody to panic with. Because just as in horror films where the first to wander off meets a terrible fate, there’s one thing to remember at Halloween Horror Nights: Never Go Alone. (Check out our review here!)

*Sunday, October 3 – Delusion: Reaper’s Remorse

Pomona, CA – The vanguard of interactive horror theatre presents: Reaper’s Remorse. There are some dead that won’t let go. Clutching to this world by whatever threads they can find. Pretty red shoes. *Monday, October 4 – Freeform’s Halloween Road (SOLD OUT!)

Los Angeles, CA – Freeform’s Halloween Road is putting a spell on fans yet again in Los Angeles. The event is back for a spooky, socially distant experience that you won’t want to miss. The outdoor, immersive event will feature the worlds of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Hocus Pocus,” “The Addams Family” and other spooktacular surprises filled with games, photo moments, live entertainment and prizes! This year, Hyundai has joined in on the fun as a presenting sponsor to make Halloween Road come alive with tricks, treats and a haunting photo opp.

*Tuesday, October 5 – House of Horrors: A Prime Pop Up Shop 

West Hollywood, CA – To celebrate Now Screaming, Prime Video will be bringing some of its most chilling titles to life on Melrose Avenue. From October 1 through November 1, House of Horrors: A Prime Video Pop Up Shop will feature show-inspired costume displays from Amazon Originals such as The Voyeurs, Black As Night (premiering 10/1), Madres (premiering 10/8), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (premiering 10/15), as well as numerous spooky twists and turns throughout the experience. *Wednesday, October 6 – Roger’s Gardens ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ 

Corona Del Mar, CA – Roger’s Gardens presents their yearly Halloween Boutique. Experience the thrill of classic horror as you explore rooms of the eerie and unusual house. Discover cabinets overflowing with artifacts and decadent decor with a twist. Open Daily 9 AM – 6 PM.

*Thursday, October 7 – Evil Dead 40th Anniversary 

In Theaters – Fathom Events and Grindhouse Releasing are bringing writer/director Sam Raimi’s original 1981 horror classic, “THE EVIL DEAD” back to cinemas nationwide for its 40th anniversary. In addition to the movie that spawned a film, TV, and video game franchise, attendees will be treated to an exclusive introduction from Bruce Campbell, who portrayed the film’s iconic lead character, Ashley “Ash” Williams. The seminal film spawned a multimedia franchise including the upcoming feature installment “EVIL DEAD RISE.”

*Friday, October 8 – NIGHTSTREAM Film Festival 

Online –  The Boston Underground Film Festival (MA), Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (NY), North Bend Film Festival (WA) and the Overlook Film Festival (LA) will re-team this fall to present the second edition of NIGHTSTREAM. Originally launched in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, NIGHTSTREAM offered a singular virtual festival experience to U.S. audiences that emphasized community support and artist involvement. Now in 2021, the collaborative online film festival will return for another digital celebration sharing all proceeds with the National Alliance To End Homelessness, climate change advocacy group the Sunrise Movement, all artists being showcased, and the four participating festivals. The 2021 festival will run from Oct. 7-13.

*Saturday, October 9 – CREEP LA

Los Angeles, CA – CREEP L.A. intertwines nuanced and in-depth story-telling with hands-on audience interaction, fostering emotional connections and unforgettable moments. Equal parts beautiful and terrifying, the CREEP L.A. experience has been described by guests as feeling like they’re truly inside a horror movie. Since 2015, CREEP L.A. has reached sold-out audiences of over 30,000, receiving rave reviews for its groundbreaking approach to the genre. Utilizing 3,000-60,000 sq/ft spaces, upwards of 30 cast members, and a creative team from diverse backgrounds, CREEP L.A. has solidified itself as L.A.’s go-to Halloween event. With only 6 showtimes a night, this year CREEP L.A. welcomes intimate groups of 6 brave souls into its dark and twisted world on select dates September 29th – October 31st.

*Sunday, October 10 – Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain 

Valencia, CA – Six Flags Magic Mountain’s 28th season of  Fright Fest is back with 24 terrifying nights of monsters, ghouls, and crazed characters ready to strike fear in anyone who crosses their path. Fright Fest boasts a grand total of 14 electrifying mazes and dare-to enter scare zones with nightmarish zombies lurking around every corner. To take fright to a new extreme, Six Flags Magic Mountain is also adding a sinister element to some of the park’s monster coasters by turning off the lights, leaving riders to face their fears in total darkness.

*Monday, October 11 – Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch

Redlands, CA – This is the LARGEST outdoor pumpkin patch in Southern California. Open from 4 to 9pm, there is much more to do than just see pumpkins. Check out the Corn Maze, Hay Pyramid, Petting Zoo, Corn Cob Beach, Fun Slide, Pumpkin Wheel… you could spend a week here! Make sure to check out their attractions page for a map and a on full list of all of their offerings. And don’t worry parents… they have great food and adult drinks too!

*Tuesday, October 12 – Mystic Museum’s The Evil Dead: 40 Years of Fear 

Burbank, CA – To celebrate The Evil Dead’s 40th anniversary, The Mystic Museum has created a terrifying, immersive experience designed to thrill fans of Sam Raimi’s original haunting film. Sponsored by Evil Dead: The Game, Fangoria, and Shudder, this immersive horror experience features an art show, photo ops, and a film prop. If you already have other spooky plans tonight, the exhibit runs until the end of the year.

*Wednesday, October 13 – Beetle House LA 

Hollywood, CA – Beetle House is a restaurant and bar that is a year-round celebration of Halloween. The artistic and thematic atmosphere is inspired by horror culture, magic, and the artistic, literary, and cinematic works of Tim Burton, Alfred Hitchcock, Bram Stoker, Washington Irving, Edgar Allen Poe, and many more. Reservations are suggested.

*Thursday, October 14 – Intruder Escape: The Clown Academy

Los Angeles, CA – The Clown Academy is a horror maze experience where guests are in school to become a clown. The clowns teach by turning classic board games into horror spectacles. Guests will enjoy the interactive maze, live performers, carnival games, complimentary popcorn, vibrant music, and a ton of scares!

*Friday, October 15 – Halloween Kills 

In Theaters & Streaming on Peacock – (Synopsis) Minutes after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. Evil dies tonight.

*Saturday, October 16 – Knott’s Scary Farm 

Buena Park, CA – Knott’s Scary Farm is the largest and most haunting Halloween event in Southern California, with unimaginable scares and innovative thrills that can’t be found anywhere else. The fully transformed theme park features uniquely haunted mazes and attractions, sinister shows, and more than 1,000 horrifying creatures lurking in the fog and hiding in every corner of the park. These haunted attractions have the ingredients of a truly terrifying nightmare. But unlike most dreams, Knott’s Scary Farm is a nightmare you can’t wake up from — which makes it the thing to do for Halloween. *Tip – make sure to catch The Haxans performances (select nights)!*

*Sunday, October 17 – Los Angeles Haunted Hayride 

Los Angeles, CA – Midnight Falls is proudly hosting its 13th annual Halloween Festival for 1985. However, this strange town is always celebrating Halloween and it’s always 1985. But that doesn’t stop the citizens from enjoying the festival’s bizarre celebratory offerings. Visit the Haunted Hayride attraction as well as 3 additional maze-style attractions – Trick or Treat, Midnight Mortuary, and Dead End Diner

*Monday, October 18 – The Vampire’s Puppet at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group

*Tuesday October 19 – Oogie Boogie Bash (SOLD OUT!) 

Anaheim, CA – The spell’s been cast! On select nights this September and October, Disney California Adventure Park will host a separately ticketed, Halloween spooktacular that includes after-hours park access to treat trails, photo opportunities, entertainment, attractions, décor, and more. Tickets for this event are sold out, but you can still enjoy a variety of attractions, entertainment, dining, and other special events during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort.

*Wednesday, October 20 – Icons of Darkness 

Los Angeles, CA – Representing over 100 years of Hollywood film history curated and collected over the last 60 years, Icons of Darkness is on display to the public for the first time ever, offering a chance get up close and personal with hundreds of its most spectacular items. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s most extensive, privately-owned collections of authentic sci-fi, fantasy, and horror film memorabilia!

*Thursday, October 21 – Tunnel of Terror Haunted Carwash 

Anaheim, CA – Starting at $25 per car, residents of Orange County and all nearby cities are welcomed to come with their family and friends to experience a one-of-a-kind Halloween thrill, filled with chills and Terror to delight the entire group. The Tunnel of Terror is a carefully curated experience, with scary and creepy performers popping up throughout the wash, and special effects providing a terrifying ambiance. Participants can also expect unique surprises each night!

*Friday, October 22 – Into The Black 

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Into the Black is a single-person walk-thru maze of the infamous “Black House”- an eerie Victorian mansion that once housed a family notorious for Devil Worship. Groups of 1-2 guests will be allowed to venture inside to discover the horrors that lie within for themselves. Are you brave enough?!

*Sunday, October 24 – Ventura County FEAR Grounds

Ventura, CA – This brand new event for 2021 brings three open air haunts to the Ventura County Fair Grounds and promises attendees vastly different, yet equally horrifying experiences. Composed of four different sections: The Cage, The Fright Train, The Terror Trail, and The Dead End (which will have treats, roaming entertainment, and photo opps), we have no doubt this new haunt will live up to our expectations… especially coming from the same team responsible for designing well-known award-winning attractions from Disney, Universal Studios, Six Flags, and more.

*Monday, October 25 – Nights of the Jack 

Calabasas, CA – This year at Nights of the Jack, the walking trail is back! Expect to see some larger than life pumpkin installations as well as detailed artist depictions of your favorite movie stars, sports heroes and animated characters. Follow the 2/3 mile trail at King Gillette Ranch, glimmering at every turn with blazing gourds around every corner. Be sure to have your cameras ready and enjoy!

*Tuesday, October 26 – 17th Door 

Fullerton, CA – We return once more to Perpetuum Penitentiary and the torturous story of our Paula. After accepting responsibility for the vicious murder of her son, Lincoln, Paula now seeks atonement for past sins. Even after months of intense labor, strengthening her body and mind, Paula has repeatedly failed in appealing to the Prison’s sinister Warden for freedom. It’s not enough. It’s never enough. Her work must continue. This is an extreme haunt and you will have to sign a waiver before entering.

Woodland Hills, CA – Haunt O’ Ween is an immersive family-friendly playground full of Halloween adventures and fun! For 31 days, this haven welcomes families into a massive celebration with everything that Halloween has to offer! Explore 150,000 sqft. full of trick-or-treating in the town of Haunt O’ Ween, pumpkin picking and carving, face painting, performances, immersive Halloween-themed tunnels, and a whopping 35,000 pumpkins on display!

*Friday October 29 – Urban Death at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group

Hollywood, CA – “Dia de los Muertos” and “Noche de los Muertos” will be two separate ticketed events, allowing guests to experience a more intimate look at this year’s theme – THE RETURN OF QUETZALCOATL. Both events will showcase dozens of altars, Aztec dancers, art exhibitions, traditional food, arts, and crafts.
